Following its successful launch at the 2008 Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film, ITFS will again organize the second Animation Co-Production Forum Eastern Europe with the Robert Bosch Stiftung during the 2009 festival, held from May 5 to 10. The forum will take place on Thursday, May 7, 2009.
For several years, the Robert Bosch Stiftung has supported co-productions and intercultural exchange between German and Eastern European animation filmmakers. Central to this work is a film-production prize worth up to €70,000, which includes support for animated films.
The Animation Co-Production Forum Eastern Europe is an important part of this funding strategy. It provides a platform for young German and Eastern European animation filmmakers and directors interested in international animation projects who want to apply for the Robert Bosch Stiftung film-production prize. Applicants must have an animation project that has not yet been produced.
Interested applicants can submit a two-page treatment in English or German. ITFS also requests initial visual material showing the film’s style and animation technique, plus a selection of previous films on DVD. Because the forum is designed to support young filmmakers, applicants must be no older than 35. The submission deadline is March 23, 2009.
ITFS will select projects to be presented in pitches to established producers and filmmakers. The Animation Co-Production Forum Eastern Europe therefore gives participants a direct opportunity to approach and secure potential co-production partners. A prominent jury will select one pitched project for automatic nomination for the Robert Bosch Stiftung’s 2010 film-production prize.
The selected filmmakers will be notified by April 9, 2009, and invited to ITFS for the duration of the Animation Co-Production Forum Eastern Europe. The invitation includes three hotel nights, from Wednesday, May 6 through Saturday, May 9, 2009, as well as return airfare.
