At the beginning of this year, Professor Dr Gerhard Fuchs, on behalf of the management and senate of the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF), proposed to Bavarian Minister of State for Science, Research and the Arts Dr Wolfgang Heubisch that Dr Klaus Schaefer be appointed honorary professor. The proposal cited Dr Klaus Schaefer’s contributions to strengthening Bavaria as a media and film location and his tireless commitment to supporting emerging filmmakers.

Since 2001, Dr Klaus Schaefer has shared his extensive specialist knowledge and practical experience with students in numerous courses at the Munich film school. HFF President Dr Gerhard Fuchs said the appointment was intended to bind the “outstanding media lawyer to HFF Munich in a special way.”

Professor Dr Klaus Schaefer has also served as first chairman of the support association of the University of Television and Film Munich since November 2001. He performs this role on a voluntary basis alongside his responsibilities as Managing Director of FilmFernsehFonds Bayern. Since it began its work, the association has already provided financial support for 35 graduation films. Last year, €80,000 in donations enabled the association to modernise the HFF library’s lending system and bring the technical department up to date by purchasing HD video camera equipment.

Professor Dr Klaus Schaefer was appointed an honorary senator of HFF Munich in 2005.
