Three of the five productions honored in the Grimme Awards’ fiction category had received Bavarian funding.
Teufelsbraten, produced by Colonia Media for ARD, WDR, NDR, and Arte, received a fiction award. Honorees included writer Volker Einrauch, director Hermine Huntgeburth, actors Ulrich Noethen and Anna Fischer, and production designer Bettina Schmidt. FFF Bayern provided €100,000 in production funding.
Another fiction award went to writers Matthias Pacht and Alexander Buresch, director Alain Gsponer, and actors Katja Riemann and Hannah Herzsprung for Das wahre Leben, produced by BurkertBareiss Development, TV60 Film, GFP Medienfonds, C-Films, ARD, SWR, BR, and SF. FFF Bayern contributed €350,000.
Wholetrain, produced by Goldkind Film, Megaherz Film und Fernsehen, Yeti Films, Aerodynamic Films, and ZDF, also won. Writer-director Florian Gaag, cinematographer Christian Rein, and editor Kai Schröter were honored. FFF Bayern supplied €295,000.
The Bavarian production Die zweite Frau also received a fiction award, honoring director Hans Steinbichler and actors Matthias Brandt and Maria Popistasu.
“That four of five fiction awards went to productions with Bavarian participation recognizes the ability to develop and tell stories here,” said FFF television-film funding representative Gabriele Pfennigsdorf.
