Gefen presented the DVI 1600HD at Pro Light + Sound 2009 in Frankfurt as a new long-distance signal extender. Its transmitter and receiver carried HDMI/DVI, RS232, and digital and analog audio over four-core LC-LC multimode or single-mode fiber.

HDMI and DVI signals with HDCP and DDC could be extended up to 200 meters, including RS232. DVI transmission using virtual DDC could reach up to 2,000 meters, also with RS232.

The extender supported computer resolutions up to WUXGA, 1920 × 1200 at 60 Hz, and HDTV resolutions up to 1080p. It fully supported DDC and HDCP and was intended for professional AV installations requiring control signals across long distances.
