Novation introduced the SL Mk II as a successor to the ReMOTE SL, expanding controller assignment and parameter operation.
Like Novation’s other keyboard controllers, the SL Mk II is designed as both a computer peripheral and an instrument. A semi-weighted Fatar Fast-Touch keyboard is combined with DAW and plug-in control plus visual parameter feedback.
Every knob and fader is touch-sensitive. Touching a control displays mapping information on the 144-character LCD. Backlit buttons and encoders with LED rings show control status.
The SL Mk II includes transport control, an XY Xpression Pad, eight drum pads, a sprung pitch/modulation joystick, and a Speed Dial encoder. Speed Dial controls the parameter currently under the pointer without separate assignment.
Alongside 25-, 49-, and 61-key models, the Zero version omits the keyboard and provides longer-throw faders plus a central crossfader.
Automap 3 Pro maps 56 knobs, faders, and buttons for DAW, VST, and Audio Units plug-in parameters. Users can touch a control and click a parameter to create a mapping.
Keystroke Assignment lets users create QWERTY or ASCII shortcuts and shortcut combinations and assign them to SL Mk II controls.
Automap 3.0 also adds Autoview, which can display the controller-status interface when a control is touched and hide it when released.
Prices and Availability
The 25- and 61-key models were scheduled to ship in April 2009, followed by Zero SL Mk II and the 49-key model.
