Hear It Like Beckham — New Capture Technology for Football Broadcasts
IRT developed a capture system designed to reproduce ball sounds in football broadcasts as if viewers were standing on the pitch. Two directional microphones tracked the ball automatically using its positional data, improving the sound of passes, traps and shots striking the crossbar.
Automatic Downmix from 5.1 Multichannel Audio to Stereo
IRT conducted subjective and objective research into automatically creating backward-compatible audio formats by combining 5.1 channels. Based on this work, it developed an intelligent algorithm that identified and compensated for possible errors from the signal characteristics.
Professional Auralization of Virtual Rooms with AUVIS Simulation Software
AUVIS, short for Auralization of Virtual Studios, was professional room-acoustics simulation software developed by IRT for planning studios and control rooms and used alongside the institute’s acoustics consulting.
AUVIS made rooms audible before construction. In addition to reverberation time, it calculated and optimized other important acoustic measurements in advance, including loudspeaker transmission at the listening position.
Mailbox Radio
Mailbox Radio combined traditional radio with internet-style usage. In cooperation with Bayerischer Rundfunk radio, IRT demonstrated how marked programmes could be recorded and managed in a digital radio’s storage.
AES took place at M.O.C. Munich from May 8 to 10, 2009.
