Since 1993, AJA had been a leading manufacturer of high-quality, cost-effective video I/O, conversion and desktop-editing solutions for professional broadcast and postproduction. Headquartered in Grass Valley, California, the company was supported by an extensive worldwide network of dealers and system integrators.
At NAB 2009, AJA announced the Ki Pro digital disk recorder, intended to bridge the gap between camera and postproduction. Video was recorded directly in Apple’s ProRes 422 codec.
This eliminated the need to render recordings into a new codec for editing; material could be imported directly into Final Cut Pro. Ki Pro supported the connection between production and postproduction through comprehensive analogue and digital interfaces.
Recorded material could be stored on either a removable FireWire 800 storage module or an ExpressCard. Material could be converted in real time from SD to HD or from 720p to 1080p at 10-bit quality. Integrated Wi-Fi and Ethernet ports allowed Ki Pro to be controlled through a web browser or an iPhone.
