This makes it the year’s best cinema opening result to date. With around 147,000 visitors in approximately 660 cinemas, the cult robots are embarking on a spectacular record-breaking course in the competition for admissions.
After the first TRANSFORMERS film grossed more than US$700 million worldwide and became the most successful film of 2007, the global triumph now continues with TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN. In the US, the blockbuster achieved the best Wednesday opening with more than 55 million visitors and generated revenue of US$16 million in night screenings alone, making it the second-best midnight-preview result ever. It therefore surpassed the existing Wednesday record held by HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, which had generated US$44.2 million on its opening day in the US.
The worldwide enthusiasm for TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN results not only from the proven Michael Bay action but also from intelligent, exciting entertainment staged at rapid pace and with considerable humour. The love story involving Sam (Shia LaBeouf) and Mikaela (Megan Fox), adventurous locations in Egypt, Paris, and Shanghai, and, not least, the numerous new and sometimes very funny robot characters, which Michael Bay presented on an even larger scale following a promise to his fans, all contribute.
