From Monday, 6 July, to Thursday, 9 July, the director will introduce students to the documentary genre in a course open to all university programmes.
Klaus Wildenhahn is regarded as the most influential German documentary filmmaker of the post-war period. He pioneered German Direct Cinema and enriched the movement with political elements.
From 6 to 9 July, HFF offers the rare opportunity to see several of his most important documentaries and speak with him.
Klaus Wildenhahn, born in 1930, grew up in Berlin. He studied without graduating at Freie Universität Berlin and Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. He later worked as an assistant director producing commercials for the television lottery, at NWDR, and as a producer for the first PANORAMA at NDR.
Wildenhahn has been a documentary filmmaker since 1964, initially for the PANORAMA editorial team, then for 16 years in the television drama department, and subsequently for NDR’s third channel. He co-initiated the Duisburg Film Week. From 1968 to 1972, he was a lecturer at DFFB; in 1993, he initiated the NDR series “Der Dokumentarische Blick,” and in 1998 he became a founding member of Filmwerkstatt Dokumentarisch Arbeiten e.V. Klaus Wildenhahn has made more than forty documentaries.
