ZDF Director-General Prof. Markus Schächter will receive the Emmy Directorate Award this year. Bruce L. Paisner, President and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, announced in New York that Schächter would receive the international prize at the 37th Emmy Awards in New York on 23 November. The jury, the Awards Committee, recognised Schächter’s outstanding management at the head of ZDF over the previous seven years.

He had prepared his broadcaster for the challenges of the digital age with great foresight. His achievements also included contributing, in different management roles over 25 years, to positioning ZDF outstandingly both nationally and internationally in one of the world’s most competitive television markets. The International Emmy Directorate Award is presented to organisations or individuals for outstanding achievement over an extended period in international television.

“ZDF’s worldwide reputation as a producer of outstanding quality television is the successful realisation of Markus Schächter’s vision for his organisation - he has always sought to combine programme quality with success among audiences,” said Bruce L. Paisner. “I am particularly delighted that, in this special year in which the Federal Republic celebrates its 60th anniversary, we are honouring a top manager from Germany for his outstanding achievements.”

ZDF Director-General Markus Schächter said in Mainz: “It is a very special honour to receive this renowned international award. I see it as major recognition of the successes ZDF has also achieved internationally. The Directorate Award is also, and not least, a tribute to the achievements of my employees, who work every day with great commitment and expertise to ensure that ZDF is a top player nationally and internationally.”

Previous recipients of the Emmy Directorate Award include Dieter Stolte, Patrick Le Lay (TF1), and Greg Dyke (BBC).
