At IBC 2009, Hanover broadcast specialist DVS intends to present further developments of its Venice video server, which marks the launch of a product line developed specifically for broadcasting (stand 7.E21). According to the manufacturer, Venice enables fast, continuous production workflows with compressed video formats. In addition, the broadcast video server records data directly from cameras, tape recorders and even Panasonic P2 cards.
Venice also supports Panasonic’s intraframe-based Advanced Video Coding technology AVC-Intra 50/100. It offers broadcasters and professional users greater flexibility and interoperability for P2 material. Since 2004, Panasonic’s file-based P2 workflow has offered increased efficiency compared with traditional tape-based technology. AVC-Intra is the most advanced compression technology on the market and achieves twice the compression efficiency of MPEG-2 systems. AVC-Intra offers two ways to perform intraframe encoding at high 10-bit quality: AVC Intra for full 1,920 x 1,080 (versus 1,440 x 1,080) video quality in mastering, and AVCIntra 50 Mbps, quality comparable to DVCPRO-HD at half the bit rate, while doubling recording time on P2 cards or other storage media.
Venice supports all common compressed formats. By supporting Panasonic’s AVC-Intra 50 and 100, Venice enables simple and fast processing of material created by Panasonic cameras. Venice users gain great flexibility in format selection as well as additional options for establishing tapeless, file-based workflows. With Venice, broadcasters can manage and process content easily, gaining time and cost advantages. Essential MXF variants can also be processed simply and quickly in the file-based workflow and distributed throughout the wider production environment.
