The Bavarian State Chancellery will fund the production of high-quality, non-violent computer games in future. The funding will be implemented in close cooperation with FilmFernsehFonds Bayern. The Free State of Bavaria is providing €470,000 per year to support the development of concepts and prototypes and the production of games.
State Minister Siegfried Schneider emphasises the importance of funding high-quality computer games to support the computer-games industry at Bavaria’s media location.
FFF Managing Director Klaus Schaefer: “For FFF Bayern, the new funding area is a welcome expansion of its activities. Because of the expertise in funding matters we have acquired over many years, games funding is in good hands with us. We are pleased to be able to initiate projects in this new, young and dynamic segment of audiovisual media.”
A dedicated games committee will decide on the allocation of funding in two meetings per year. FFF Funding Officer Dr Michaela Haberlander is available as the industry’s contact.
The first games-funding procedure is already in the starting blocks: the application forms are online, and the submission deadline for the first applications is October 13, 2009. The allocation committee will meet on November 11, 2009, and decide on the first funding for games in Bavaria.
