Contributions from 40 countries around the world, from Australia to the United Arab Emirates, are entering the competition this year. More than 1,000 animated films, television productions, commercials and video games were created by over 450 participants. In 2009, animago will once again be one of the largest and most important awards in the animation and post-production industry worldwide.
The winners will be announced on October 29 at one of the world’s leading film studios: Babelsberg. A highlight of the two-day animago CONFERENCE will be the presentation of all 55 shortlisted entries in 11 categories during the animago gala.
The winners are not yet known, but one thing is clear: animago AWARD is becoming more international.
One reason is the strong participation from countries such as France, and the jury has chosen the best 125 entries from over 1,000 candidates. Compared to last year, more long-form entries were included and there is also a growing use of 3D animation.
In four of the 11 categories, the public will determine the winners. DIGITAL PRODUCTION will run public voting together with its media partners:
- macnews (“Best Mobile Production”)
- Hobnox (“Best Advertising Production”)
- fotocommunity (“Best Virtual Photo”)
Readers of DIGITAL PRODUCTION will choose the winner of “Best International Cinema Production.”
The animago AWARD has honored the best productions in digital content creation (DCC) since 1997. This impressive event shows what top creative professionals can achieve with current technology. Films such as Up, virtual worlds such as Second Life and games such as World of Warcraft all demonstrate how essential animation is.
The significance of this still-developing industry is shown by the enthusiasm of Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and its Director Petra Müller: “Berlin-Brandenburg is a content location. We are pleased that Europe’s most important digital content creation competition is coming to the region. Creative professionals from adjacent industries such as film, games, Web 2.0, visual effects, design and technology are already here, and now knowledge and synergies can be brought together.”
The local scene has also been integrated through specialist retailer Lichtblick 4D. The team behind the successful Berlin Meet & Greet festivals will be involved in planning animago CONFERENCE.
The animago AWARD and evening party are the highlights linking the two days of conferences.
On October 29 and 30 in Babelsberg, key conference program points include masterclasses, making-of sessions, demos and hands-on workshops. The organizers are still recruiting speakers and demo artists, and the schedule promises a varied and exciting program that also strengthens Babelsberg as a media location.
