“We want to build a European network in which everyone who studies television academically can find a place,” Mikos explains.
Especially in an era when many were already predicting the end of television “as we know it,” it was all the more important to engage seriously with television’s history and future.
Lothar Mikos has been Professor of Television Studies at HFF “Konrad Wolf” since 1999. After his studies, he spent three years as an editor at a public-service television broadcaster and then worked for more than ten years as an author, critic and director. After completing his doctorate in Dortmund and habilitation in Leipzig, alongside his work at HFF he was invited as a visiting professor to the Free University of Berlin, Glasgow Caledonian University, the University of Gothenburg, the University of Kassel, the University of Klagenfurt and the University of Westminster in London. During the previous years, he gave numerous lectures in Germany and abroad and published several books.
The appointment of Mikos as chair of a section in a European academic association marks another step towards the internationalisation of HFF’s Media Studies programme.
