Like all other SoundField microphones, the SPS200 is a multi-capsule microphone that can record audio signals in three dimensions and output them in various formats—including mono, stereo, M&S and a phase-coherent 5.1 signal. The SPS200 is SoundField’s smallest, lightest and most affordable microphone. Unlike the other SoundField microphones, it is not supplied with a separate hardware decoder. Instead, users can determine the output format in post-production through the cross-platform Surround Zone plug-in, available for VST- and TDM-compatible audio workstations.
Because of its size, the SPS200-SB is ideally suited to recording audio signals in both stereo and surround on location. For this purpose, the new SPS200 Zephyx Kit includes a Cinela Zephyx suspension and windshield system that serves as the housing for the SPS200-SB microphone. The system’s unique, lightweight “ground-free cage construction” mechanically isolates the microphone from the supporting boom pole or microphone stand and eliminates almost all vibration and handling noise.
To improve mechanical isolation further, the SPS200-SB is equipped with a 28 cm “flying cable” that acts as an anti-vibration cable inside the Zephyx housing. The standard package also includes a five-metre microphone cable with four outputs (XLR/m) and a Zephyx transport case.
Ken Giles, Managing Director of SoundField, explains the thinking behind the new SPS200 Zephyx Kit: “The larger microphones from our digital and analogue systems are supplied with Rycote windshields as standard. The fact that the SPS200 Zephyx Kit is so small and light makes it the perfect choice for film and location use.”
The SPS200 Zephyx Kit is available now. The gross recommended retail price is EUR 3,861.
