The event takes place on the Studio Hamburg site. More than 30 companies and manufacturers present products, talks and workshops across an area of 1,000 square metres. Multimedia distributor ComLine is also on site with the latest solutions from storage expert Sonnet and digital-video specialist AJA. Product highlights at the stand are the Fusion RX1600 Fibre multi-user storage solution and the Fusion F2 eSATA RAID. Sonnet’s Qio digital professional card reader with eSATA interface may also be shown in Germany for the first time.
Brief product introductions:
The Fusion RX1600 Fibre is Sonnet’s first multi-user storage solution. Significantly faster than traditional interfaces such as eSATA or FireWire, the enclosure with 16 hard drives offers bandwidth of up to 1,030 MB/sec in read mode. This high data rate pays off particularly when accessed by several clients. Four integrated 8 GB Fibre interfaces allow smaller workgroups to operate without an additional Fibre Channel switch.
To store and process large film files quickly and securely while on the move, a mobile RAID such as the Sonnet Fusion F2 is indispensable. The Sonnet storage solution represents high speed, reliability and extremely robust construction. With data transfer that is as fast as it is secure, at up to 190 MB/sec, it represents the fastest solution of its kind.
Further RAID enclosures from Sonnet with integrated RAID controllers and quad interfaces will also be on display. In all likelihood, the new Sonnet Qio card reader for professional formats such as SxS and P2 memory cards will also be presented to video experts in Germany for the first time. The eSATA host controller integrated into Qio enables read speeds of up to 250 MB/sec. Data transfer is made particularly simple by the option of connecting storage drives directly to the reader. Control and data transfer to the computer can take place either via a PCIe or ExpressCard adapter card. Further supported memory-card formats are CompactFlash and SD HC.
At AJA, the KiPro hard-disk recorder and Io Express breakout box are the focus of the appearance at Hamburg Open. The new products enable a continuous tape-free workflow using the Apple ProRes codec from camera to post-production. The AJA KiPro can record in Apple ProRes and the material can be edited immediately without copying or transcoding. Users can view and edit dailies immediately. Older or less expensive cameras with good optics but missing or poorer-quality recording can also be used as a second unit. The KiPro can also be used as an HD player for presentations.
