According to company information, the new Lynx AES16e-50 PCI Express audio card from Lynx Studio Technology includes a range of different connection options. In addition to the 16 digital I/O channels with 192 kHz AES/EBU via two D-Sub connectors, the Lynx AES16e-50 offers 32 additional digital I/O channels through the use of AES50 technology. The AES50 interface supports a bidirectional point-to-point connection for multichannel audio as well as system control via a single CAT5e or CAT6 network cable. The advantages are reliable data transfer with high bandwidth, low latency and low clock jitter. Complete networks can be built using suitable routers with multiple
AES50 ports, it continues.
“We became aware of AES50 and HyperMac several years ago when we were in the middle of developing the Lynx AES16e. The capabilities of our Lynx AES16 technology combined with a PCI Express interface, as well as 32-channel I/O on a single cable, make the Lynx AES16e so innovative and powerful,” says Bob Bauman, Chief Hardware Developer and co-founder of Lynx. “In this context, we will work closely with manufacturers such as Klark Teknik, Midas, Sadie, Merging Technologies and others to further advance the AES50 standard.”
According to the information, the AES50 connection on the Lynx AES16e-50 offers up to 32 channels at 48 kHz, 24 channels at 96 kHz and 12 channels at 192 kHz. The single network cable also transmits sample-clock and control data, making the Lynx AES16e-50 the ideal solution for permanent installations, broadcast and live-sound applications. Sample-rate conversion (SRC) for 16 channels is also integrated into the Lynx AES16e-50.
