The beginning of the first Popstars season in September 2000 established a new genre on German television – today, music casting shows are almost impossible to imagine outside the television landscape. Influenced by this, many young people dream of starting a career in the music industry. However, casting shows often convey a false understanding of employment opportunities in the music industry. Although many dream of a career on stage, most jobs are found behind the scenes.
SAE Institute, the world’s largest educational institution in audiovisual media, offers comprehensive training opportunities that pave the way into the music industry for people interested in music.

The Music Industry Is Changing
The music industry is a growth market offering attractive job prospects. This is now also confirmed by GFK, which forecasts substantial growth for the German music market by 2013. At the same time, the industry faces a transformation: new technologies and the increasing digitalisation of the music business play a central role. The fact that CeBIT Sounds! was held in March 2010 makes clear how closely the music and IT industries have now converged. Demand for technical professions in the music industry and for degree programmes with corresponding training content will increase accordingly. The extent to which the music industry is in motion is also made clear by the forthcoming Musikmesse in Frankfurt. The event is one of the largest industry gatherings of its kind and is regarded as a trend barometer for the music industry. Large numbers of visitors are again expected in 2010.
SAE Institute Trains All-Rounders
According to the institution, SAE Institute offers a special “Audio Engineer Program” that prepares students for careers in the audio industry. The possible areas of work are highly varied. Whether in studios and live environments, broadcasting, film and television, or the games industry, a broad spectrum of job prospects is available to SAE students.
