Focal’s award-winning CMS-series (Compact Monitoring System) active nearfield monitors gain a high-calibre addition with the CMS 40. The compact monitoring marvel will be presented to the world for the first time at Musikmesse Frankfurt. The CMS 40 active monitor offers all the advantages of its larger siblings in an even more compact design. The CMS range is therefore being systematically expanded and enriched with another highlight.
Al/Mg Inverted-Dome Tweeter and Polyglass Cone
For the CMS 40, Focal uses high-quality components that are also employed in the CMS 50 and CMS 60. The inverted-dome tweeter (25W RMS) is made from a special aluminium/magnesium alloy and provides a frequency response up to 28 kHz, ensuring uncoloured detail reproduction across all ranges. The woofer’s Polyglass cone is extremely light yet very rigid, providing neutral, distortion-free reproduction. The special feature of Focal’s Polyglass technology is a thin layer of hollow glass spheres on the surface of a cellulose-based membrane. This produces particularly rich bass without unwanted colouration.
The CMS 40 offers the same outstanding sound characteristics in even more compact dimensions: just 24 cm high, 15.6 cm wide and 15.5 cm deep. Its many adjustment options allow adaptation to any room acoustics. The CMS 40 turns even the smallest audio workstation into a major sound event. The black, powder-coated aluminium enclosure combines first-class sound characteristics, sophisticated vibration damping and understated design. Height-adjustable spikes, four rubber feet, an isolating desktop stand and two protective grilles (for tweeter/woofer) complete the accessories package.
Award-Winning Monitor Series
Like the SMS 50 and CMS65, the CMS 40 is compatible with accessories from K&M and Omnimount. “As the youngest offspring of such a successful product family, the CMS 40 naturally has a difficult legacy to live up to,” comments Nicolas Debard, Focal’s Marketing & Sales Director. “Because of the outstanding quality of the CMS 50 and 65, expectations for the CMS 40 are particularly high. We do not merely want to meet these expectations, but exceed them.”
