EAMgraduate is aimed at students and graduates of universities in the fields of animation, art, graphics and design, as well as related courses. The programme takes place in Halle (Saale) and extends over four months. The pre-course for the Masterclass – which can also be taken separately – begins on July 5, 2010.
The aim of EAMgraduate is to prepare a maximum of 20 participants for a professional career in the European animation industry. The challenges of real animation production are as much a part of the programme as imparting theoretical knowledge and applying it in producing participants’ own animated short films. The Masterclass concludes with a public presentation of the work – naturally also before the eyes of professionals, who increasingly use the opportunity as a recruitment event. After the student films are completed, they will be submitted to renowned international festivals.
The Masterclass students are supervised by trainers and lecturers with many years of experience in the European animation industry. Their professional backgrounds, with specialisations in key areas of the animation sector, guarantee the teaching of realistic production-process workflows in accordance with the industry’s needs.
The European Animation Masterclass is one of the International Academy of Media and Arts e.V.’s most successful initiatives and has taken place in Halle (Saale) since 2005. After the multi-month continuing-education programme had previously been identical for young talent, university graduates and participants with initial professional experience, following an analysis of the animation industry’s needs, EAM was differentiated into special offerings for graduates and students (EAMgraduate) and experienced professionals (EAMprofessional).
Graduates of earlier EAM courses now work for renowned studios such as Aardman, MotionWorks and Trikk17. Many alumni are now scattered across the globe as freelance artists or independent filmmakers. Some of them found their way back and now pass on their experience as lecturers at the European Animation Masterclass.
Animated short films created during previous EAM courses are running successfully at international film festivals. Most recently, two EAM graduates won at the Leipzig “Kurzsüchtig” short-film festival: Falk Schuster – a 2008 EAM participant – for his graduation film at the University of Art and Design Halle, Burg Giebichenstein, “Laufende Geschäfte,” and Maria Kalcheva for her EAM graduation film “Score,” the young-talent development prize of Filmverband Sachsen.
