Making music on a computer is a matter of course for more and more young people. This applies particularly at schools, which constantly open up new possibilities for their pupils to develop their own musical ideas through the use of current music technology. The Ableton Summer Music Challenge aims to encourage this development by calling on pupils worldwide to spend their summer holidays creatively producing music. The Ableton Summer Music Challenge runs until August 31, 2010. All pupils at state schools up to the age of 18 may participate. To keep it as fair as possible, there are two age groups: “under 15” and “15–18.”
The process is simple and consists of three steps:
A) Compose and produce your own track – any style, any instruments and any software or hardware: everything is allowed.
B) Upload your track (only one) to SoundCloud and tell the world about it. The upload page already has links for Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and email.
C) The tracks with the most plays by August 31, 2010, will be presented to a high-calibre Ableton jury. The judges include Berlin electronic musician “Apparat,” producer and Grammy winner Bob Power, and Depeche Mode producer Andrew Phillpott.
One main winner and 24 additional winners will be selected in each age group. The two main winners receive a prize package for themselves and their school:
Grand prize:
• 1 x Ableton Suite software package
• 1 x Novation Launchpad MIDI controller • 1 x Novation Nio 2/4 audio interface • 1 x SoundCloud Pro membership (one year) • 1 x Loopmaster gift voucher (value: €250)
Grand prize for the school:
• 1 x Ableton Live Intro multi-licence (for multiple installation) • 15 x Novation Launchpad MIDI controllers • 15 x Novation Nio 2/4 audio interfaces • 25 x SoundCloud Lite memberships (one year) • 1 x Loopmasters Origins sample collection
Other prizes:
The 24 additional winners – in each age group – receive:
