Price Drop at Pixar

Pixar’s RenderMan Pro Server was unexpectedly reduced in price by forty percent yesterday. RenderMan, one of the most successful renderers, was continuously developed and was used on The Abyss, the Terminator films and Toy Story, among others.

Over the past 15 years – since the introduction of the Visual Effects Oscar – 47 of the 50 nominees were produced with Pixar’s RenderMan. The price reduction for RenderMan Pro Server is intended to give Pixar the decisive advantage in the growing CG market. Because the reduction from US$3,500 to US$2,000 brings Renderman within reach of freelancers, who make up an ever larger part of the CG industry.
