Manufacturer DNA Research releases “3Delight for Softimage 3.0”, the Third version of the fully integrated, RenderMan-compatible renderer for Autodesk Softimage. The latest version supports Softimage 2011 and 2011.5 and handles ICE Volumes, Volumics, Render Maps and final gathering for global illumination. There is also support for many more shaders, including architectural materials and car paints.

RIB import and export are now also part of the plug-in’s functions, as are render trees, which now bring compounds, 2011 shader nodes and improved shader merging.

“3Delight for Softimage 3.0” is available free as a beta version for the new dual-core version; a quad-core licence costs 400 US dollars and an unlimited licence costs 900 US dollars.

If you want to know exactly what you gain from RenderMan support, we recommend the next issue of Digital Production – we examined the latest version of RenderMan, and in assigment 3/2011 the rendering manager of the animated hit “Guardians of Gahoole” explains why he swears by RIBs.
