Colourists want to be able to control every aspect of an image and need tools that can precisely correct specific areas of the image. The new Quantel Range Control is a powerful addition to Pablo’s existing correction palette, enabling absolute precision and highly nuanced selective colour corrections.
Range Control can be used to adjust exactly how strongly corrections already made affect the image gradually, including the progressions of the gradation curves, the company explains. With the hue-saturation tool, Quantel now gives colourists an additional option for changing individual hues in isolation. All these functions can be operated easily and intuitively with the Neo Panel.
At NAB, Quantel also presented a series of further colour-correction improvements developed in response to suggestions from colourists. These include improved MLTFX-Fettle control, optimised keyframe control and faster storyboarding.
New Workflows
Integration of Arri Alexa and D21: Quantel supports workflows with ARRIRAW data from the new Alexa digital film camera. Following integration of the Arri D20 and D21 formats, the Alexa’s native material can now also be read into the Quantel workflow.
Integration of AVID DNxHD: another Quantel innovation at NAB is the exchange of native DNxHD material from AVID via the MXF (Material Exchange Format) wrapper format, transferring the full data depth. With this new development, Quantel improves compatibility with AVID systems.
16 Channel audio i/o: audio recordings from HDSDI can now be input and output across up to 16 audio tracks. All tracks are visible on the monitor and users can switch between the individual audio tracks. With this innovation, Quantel responds to customer requirements as they increasingly work with multilingual versions and 5.1 stereo 3D material.
All these innovations and further-developed tools are integral parts of the current V5 software, which will ship in May. This update version is available free of charge to customers already working with the V5 system.
