"Puss in Boots" is wreaking havoc in German cinemas. Dreamworks’ latest work opens in Germany on December 8, 2011 and comes with state-of-the-art 3D technology. Everything in the film, from the energetic cat to the destructive tornado, was produced with HP Z800 workstations, which were also used on "Shrek" and "Kung Fu Panda", among others.
With each new film, the amount of data to be processed gets larger and larger – while the first "Shrek" film still had 6 terabytes, current productions by the animation studios comprise 20 times that amount. Dreamworks’ render farms therefore consist of hundreds of powerful HP Z800 workstations. The computers can be equipped with up to twelve cores, which considerably shortens lengthy waiting times for processes and renderings.
Reason enough to put the helpers behind the scenes in the spotlight for once and honor them appropriately: accompanied by two models and Puss in Boots himself, the HP Z800 was led across the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of the film to the cheers of thousands of fans:
