The ZDepth pass that can be rendered out of various 3D software packages is said to be usable optimally with the three different plug-ins for After Effects. The package containing the three plug-ins is already included in the Render Elements Suite. Anyone who does not yet own it can download the plug-in package here for 14.99 dollars.
The package contains these three plug-ins:
- Z_Depth Compose – composes two layers using their depth maps
- Z_Depth Cut – selects pixels using the depth map
- Z_Depth Shadow – projects a shadow onto a depth map
