It took 15 hours to calculate this simulation. The render was produced with a mix of Krakatoa particles and Frost Mesh, rendered with Mental Ray in 3ds MAx and then composed in After Effects. A water simulation like this required 3 million particles.
The Naiad simulation software is said to have already been used for 3D fluid animation in various films, including Avatar, The A-Team and Shark Night 3D.
