Like the HPX600, according to Panasonic, the HPX255 is intended to be able to record Full HD(1920 x 1080) and SD with the AVC-Intra codec at 10-bit, 4:2:2. Furthermore, recording slow-motion and quick-motion sequences using a variable frame rate is said to be possible without problems. The recording formats include AVC-Intra100, AVC-Intra50, as well as DVCPRO HD, DVCPRO 50, DVCPRO, and DV. DRS(Dynamic Range Stretch) provides an extended dynamic range, and new functions such as a still more time-optimized Push AF or colored peaking in red were added by Panasonic. Two P2 card slots enable continuous recording if one card becomes full.
Further available connections include USB 2.0 on the one hand and IEEE 1394a(FireWire) on the other. An additional wired remote control called EC4 can be purchased with it, and according to Panasonic it is supplied as standard with a ten-meter BNC cable.
Panasonic wants to sell this model from July for a price of 6995$.
