3D on the Mac: Cheetah3D Version 6.0

MW3D Solutions once again substantially expanded Cheetah3D. Among other things, the new Version 6 received integration of the Bullet Physics engine for soft-body or rigid-body dynamics simulations. Isosurfaces (meta-balls) can now also be used, and complex simulations can be baked. Interested users can buy Cheetah3D 6 through the MW3D Solutions (www.cheetah3D.com) homepage, priced at 99 dollars for a single-seat license and 69 dollars for an upgrade.

Cheetah3D is back and competing right at the front, as a sports commentator would put it. According to MW3D Solutions, more than 200 new features were integrated into the new version of the 3D program and optimizations were made. Reading through the long list, Version 6 could be regarded as a small milestone.

Alongside the implementation of the Bullet Physics engine, meta-balls, and a baking option for complex simulations, features such as an interactive real-time preview for simulations and keying animations of mesh vertices and spline control points are among the larger innovations.

The complete list of features is available here and, for potential buyers, here is the link to the online shop.

However, users who bought Cheetah3D after December 12, 2010, receive the upgrade to Version 6 free of charge.
