With Marvelous Designer 2, the South Korean company CLO Virtual Fashion wants to lend digital artists a hand when it comes to working with realistic clothing fabrics.
The key features include the Octane Render engine, which provides the realistic appearance of the data sets, and compatibility with programs such as 3D Studio Max, Maya, Softimage, LightWave, Poser, DAZ Studio, Vue, and modo. Data can be imported from there into Marvelous Designer via OBJ Wavefront or Collada and exported completely after the finished simulation. Pattern templates that can be applied selectively also provide a quick start in the program. In addition, there is a sewing-pattern system with which users can design their own clothing. Tools such as Polyline and Free Curve are available for this case. The tool benefits not only digital artists and also appears to be very interesting for the fashion market. According to the manufacturer, the Animation Editor in particular provides the opportunity to prepare cloth animations in Marvelous Designer 2 and render them in the user’s own 3D package.
