Alongside these two blockbuster presentations, Oscar-nominated VFX Supervisor Kim Libreri, who was responsible for effects in the three Matrix films and Mission: Impossible, among others, will offer insights into his work and answer questions from the press and professional audience. There will also be presentations on the animated adventure "Despicable Me 2", the hit game "Assassin’s Creed 3", and the high-profile series "Virtual Production", "Games for Change Europe" and the "Virtual Humans Forum".

"Iron Man" Is Back and Coming to Stuttgart!

Iron Man 3 opens in German cinemas on 1 May, but the FMX audience will be allowed to look behind the scenes of the action film one week before its theatrical release. Two talks on Marvel’s latest comic-book adaptation are on the programme: Guy Williams (Weta Digital) will address the creation and destruction of the film’s digital harbour area and will be supported in his presentation by Animation Supervisor Aaron Gilman (also Weta Digital).

Gilman illustrates how a total of 32 different Iron Man battle suits had to be transformed and destroyed for the battle sequence. In a second talk about Tony Stark’s third solo adventure, VFX Supervisor and Head of Compositing Alessandro Cioffi, together with Concept Artist Luis Guggenberger, explains how the German VFX company Trixter was also involved in a large proportion of the effects in Iron Man 3.

Oblivion

The current Tom Cruise film Oblivion is also in focus: Overall VFX Supervisor Bjørn Mayer and VFX Supervisor Thilo Ewers (both from Pixomondo) trace the blockbuster’s production process, from pre-production in Hawaii to the creation of complex CGI worlds. The film currently tops the German cinema charts.

"Despicable Me 2"

Alongside the prehistoric adventures of The Croods, Pixar’s short film The Blue Umbrella and the new Blue Sky film Epic, the sequel to the popular animated film "Despicable Me" is also in the spotlight this year. Two months before the official theatrical release, Mac Guff Illumination CEO Jacques Bled and Animation Director Pierre Leduc illustrate the challenges involved in animating the film and invite the audience to meet the popular Minions.
