Even in in its 20th anniversary year, the Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film was once again a great success; the weather cooperated with sunny temperatures most of the time, and more than 80,000 visitors attended. In 2013, the event area was expanded beyond the city-centre cinemas and the open-air screen on Schlossplatz. For the first time, the children’s film festival "Tricks for Kids" took place at the Mercedes-Benz Museum; Stuttgart’s Wilhelma zoo was also added as a new venue, and the games industry was represented for the first time in the new Gamezone.

On Sunday, the honoured animated works received the Trickstar and the prizes in the competition categroies at the Gloria cinema. The jury made its selection from around 2,000 submitted works.

The Grand Prix in the "International Competition", with prize money of 15,000 euros, went to the Belgian-French-Dutch co-production "Oh Willy…":

10,000 euros and the Lotte Reiniger Promotion Award for Animated Film went to Ryo Okawara from Japan and his film "Kara No Tamago".

The Netherlands received the SWR Audience Award for the dark work "Junkyard":

The jury awarded the Young Animation Prize for the best student film to four students from Estonia for "Eine Murul":

The Tricks for Kids prize for the best short film stayed directly in Baden-Württemberg and went to Studio Soi for "Schrecken ohne Ende". The Trickstar for "Best Voice Actor in an Animated Film" went to Rick Kavanian, known from "Bullyparade", who had lent his voice to "Ritter Rost – Eisenhart und voll verbeult". You can find a detailed making-of article about the knight by Nico Ostermann in DP issue 02/13; in the attachment, the DP editorial team gives you this as a PDF.
