Thunderbolt has a high data-transfer speed and is therefore particularly interesting for video editing. Unfortunately, it is still expensive. Gigabyte Technology is releasing the Series 8 motherboard for the new Intel Haswell socket. The boards are intended to offer Thunderbolt connectivity with two Thunderbolt ports directly on the back panel. According to Gigabyte, each Thunderbolt port supports a maximum data-transfer speed, with bidirectional transfer of up to 10 gigabytes per second.
Asus has not been idle either and now offers the Z87-Deluxe/Dual for Haswell CPUs. The company also intends to present an expansion card soon that adds Thunderbold to Z77 motherboards. Asrock now offers the ASRock Z87 Extreme9/ac model , while Intel offers the DZ77RE-75K motherboard.
