The "Kinects for Windows v2" development kit is based on the new Xbox One sensor and is intended to ship in 2014. Since Jasper Brekelmans, or Brekel for short, conducted his point-cloud test with a prerelease sensor and preliminary software, the results should be seen only as a sneak peek; several things will still change in the final release.

Brekel is a senior character and MoCap TD and has already developed the Brekel Kinect Pro Body software, which makes motion capturing with Kinect possible within your own four walls. (You will find more about this in the upcoming DP issue 01/14, which appears on December 11.)

The skeleton in Brekel’s test had 25 joints, and the video was recorded at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 fps. Here is the video in which he presents the results.

Here is Brekel’s unboxing video, in which he unpacks the "Kinect for Windows v2" Developer Kit.
