Crytek’s new "Engine-as-a-service" program makes the Cryengine available as a service. Features available with this rental offering include new functions such as Physically Based Shading, Geometry Cache and Image Based Lighting. The free Cryengine SDK will continue to be available under the same conditions, but anyone who wants to use the new features in game development should sign up for the new EaaS program.
In parallel with the launch of the Cryengine-as-a-service program, Crytek will also expand the Online Service Portfolio; in the next step, self-publishing options and free online games are also expected to be available on the game studio’s platform.
All further information about the new Cryengine rental model is available here.
Among other things, the Xbox One game "Ryse: Son of Rome" was developed with the Cryengine. More about the development of the game is available in the current DP issue 02/2014.
