A new job-placement service has recently become available. 3D Spotfinder is a portal where 3D companies and 3D specialists can register. So far, so good.
But according to the two operators – Roger Sparwasser from Germany and Joel Bouzaid from New Zealand – the platform is distinguished by two special features. First, the two artists want to make searching intuitive and clear with their map-based interface. "Companies, freelancers, or events should be able to find each other better this way. The map is the heart of the website," explains Sparwasser.
Second, the platform is also intended to be a point of contact for people who are not active in the professional 3D field but are looking for someone who is. For artists, in turn, this is intended to generate jobs not only in film/VFX but also involving other tasks in visualization (architecture/industry, MoCap studios, etc.). Categories for schools (with the subcategories Academy, Animation School, University) and events (Conference, Exhibitions, Road Shows, Trade Shows, and Events) have also been created.
Freelancers can register on 3D Spotfinder free of charge; all other 3D business partners can do so for an average of around 4 US dollars per month. As a kick-off promotion, all spots registered by August 1, 2014, are currently free for one year.
3D Spotfinder contains good ideas. In addition to pure job placement, the platform is later intended to function as a news site and enable discussions in forums, giving it a social-media character. So far, however, that is still pie in the sky. In addition, 3D Spotfinder faces stiff competition from existing platforms such as Freelance Factory, Xing, LinkedIn, das Auge, or Crew United. Although the launch of the portal has laid the foundation, the site is still fairly empty at the moment, something the kick-off promotion is intended to change.
