Both studios will operate under the name Double Negative in the cooperative arrangement and will be led by Dneg managing director Alex Hope and CEO Matthew Holben. Prime Focus founder and CEO Namit Malhotra will be executive chairman and Group CEO of Prime Focus Limited. A new Double Negative location in Vancouver is expected to join the studios in London and Singapore in the fall and make use of Prime Focus’s access to Indian productions and technologies.
Despite the merger, both studios intend to continue pursuing their own line of activity: "We made it clear before: the Dneg team does visual effects; we continue to do 3D conversion and animation," says Namit Malhotra, according to Variety. Prime Focus’s service therefore remains unaffected by the deal.
Prime Focus employs around 4,000 people and has offices in the USA, the UK, Canada, China, and India. The studio is currently working on the fourth "Transformers" installment and "Sin City: A Dame to Kill".
Double Negative was founded in 1998 and is headquartered in London. Among other things, they received an Oscar for Best Visual Effects for their work on "Inception". The team is currently working on Christopher Nolan’s new work "Interstellar".
