Female and male students at German universities studying media, design, and film could take part in the “SHORT CUT” short film competition. The initiative was launched by Mannheim’s Technoseum, and director and producer Nico Hofmann of UFA will chair the jury (see also DP issue 05/14, "Producing Films in Germany).
A total of 20,000 euros in prize money is being offered: 8,000 euros for 1st place, 5,000 euros for 2nd place, and 2,000 euros for the third-place winner. In addition, entrants can win an audience award worth 5,000 euros, for which female and male users can vote online. And: a shortened version of the winning film will be shown in all Cinemaxx cinemas in Germany.
Anyone with a film idea can register to enter the competition from now until October 15 at http://www.shortcut-award.de. The prizes will be presented at a gala in the Technoseum, which will take place in May 2015.
The film may not be longer than 60 seconds and should approach the topic in a witty and surprising way; both live-action films and animations are permitted. An unusual story and high entertainment value are decisive criteria for judging the spot, which should also have viral potential.
The Technoseum is organizing this competition as part of the “Youth for Technology” initiative.
