Scene 5.3 is intended to offer even more efficient processing of laser-scanning projects. One feature is that using artificial targets such as spheres and checkerboard reference marks for scan registration is no longer necessary in many cases. Users can choose between the “Top-View” registration method, a largely automated method that makes scan positioning possible without reference marks, and “Cloud-to-Cloud,” which allows users to align scans with one another quickly and precisely even under difficult scanning conditions.
Here is a before-and-after comparison of the old and new results.

The new “Correspondence Split View" and “Layout Image Overlay” functions are intended to let users respond flexibly to many different project requirements; for example, similar areas in neighboring scans can be marked to control the registration result manually. Scan data can also be displayed in its geographical context by incorporating image files, CAD drawings, or maps.

At the same time, release 1.5 of the WebShare Cloud scan-data hosting service is also launching, allowing scanning projects to be published and shared worldwide via the Internet.
