As more and more video DSLR cameras are also being used in the professional sector, many of which only have an HDMI interface, the interface can no longer be assigned solely to the consumer market. Since the SDI interface had not only a more robust design but also a start-stop trigger for recordings and the ability to transmit timecode, it was the preferred interface for professional applications for over 25 years.
Together with camera manufacturers, Atomos therefore began to retrofit these functions to HDMI as well. To transfer SDI’s better cable connection options to HDMI too, Atomos will release a series of new HDMI cables on August 15, which will be available for around 20 to 30 US dollars. The cables will be available in different lengths and as full, mini and micro HDMI cable variants. They are intended to fit better thanks to angled connectors, and the coiled winding also provides leeway in the event of a sudden pull. Initially they were intended only for the Ninja recorder range, but were then also offered individually at customers’ request.
