Because Noah Paessel wanted to use several colours from the Van Gogh work for his render. So he found out how to turn pixels into voxels using the Blender Python API and wrote a Blender Python script for this purpose.
The script works by reading the RGB values of the pixels of a previously named texture image. It then creates a new diffuse shader material of the same colours for each individual pixel, and at the end of the process a 3D cube is created based on the X, Y coordinates, whose height is determined by the pixel dimension.
