Pascal Flörks (www.floerks.de) studied the “Animation” specialisation at the Film Academy. The film “Bear” is his graduation project. Bear” is a personal project about his late grandfather, who was a paratrooper in the Second World War.
Using historical photos from the family archive as well as war photographs from the Federal Archives, Pascal tells the story of his grandfather and the effects of his wartime experiences on his character and his environment. In doing so, he replaces him with a CG bear. The greatest challenge in the project was to create a realistic-looking 3D bear and then integrate it into the historical photos. The bear model is not animated; the film concept is to express the past time, the experiences and the grandfather’s associated story through photographs.
"Bear" was recently awarded the rating "Especially Valuable" by the Film Assessment Board (FBW) and impressed the First Steps jury with its original look.
The film will also be shown to a wider audience on Thursday: together with the Babylon cinema, First Steps is organising the film series "New German Film", in which a selection of this year’s nominated works will be shown. The screening begins at 8:15 p.m.
