With this award, they honour his many contributions to film entertainment. In particular, they honour Abrams’s ability to tell stories and his ability to use new techniques to create mysterious worlds.
And J.J. Abrams really is a jack of all trades: not only have numerous feature films such as "Mission: Impossible 3", "Super 8" and "Star Trek" been made under his direction. He also works as a producer, founded the studio Bad Robot Productions and even published a book called "S".
Previous recipients of the VES honorary award were Christopher Nolan, Ang Lee and Alfonso Cuarón. Last year, Cuarón won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects with "Gravity", as did his editor Mark Sanger in the "Best Editing" category.
