The festival presents the entire spectrum of current animated filmmaking, with interfaces to architecture, art, design and comedy. In the GameZone, the ITFS deals with transmedia and the convergence of animation and computer games. The festival offers directors as well as production and distribution companies a platform to present their films to a broad audience and numerous industry representatives. For six days and nights, the ITFS, which was founded in 1982, will once again show its animated-film programme in spring 2015.

The open-air cinema on Stuttgart’s Schlossplatz gives the festival a very special atmosphere. In 2014, around 85,000 spectators came to Stuttgart to see more than 600 films on the open-air screen, in Stuttgart city-centre cinemas, at the Mercedes-Benz Museum and in Ludwigsburg.

Prize money totalling more than 50,000 euros is awarded in the various competitions. Through the combination of the Animated Film Festival, Animation Production Day and the FMX conference, the event has developed into an important platform for financing and developing animation projects.

Animated films produced after October 01, 2013 can be submitted for one of the following competitions:

  • International Competition (short-film competition)
  • Young Animation (student-film competition)
  • Tricks for Kids – Short Film and Series (competition for animated short films and TV series for children)
  • Cartoons for Teens (competition for animated short films and series, anime machinimas for young people)
  • AniMovie (feature-film competition)

The registration deadline is December 1, 2014
