HitFilm is suitable for both PC and Mac. In terms of editing functions, a new trimmer has been added, clips can be split by shortcut and selected sections played in a loop. Thanks to new proxy calculation in the background, the editing and compositing workflow is intended to interlock substantially better.
OpenFX support is also practical, allowing third-party plug-ins to be used together with HitFilm. At the end of November, the GenArts Sapphire plug-ins are initially expected to be supported (more about this in DP issue 06/14), while support for Red Giant, RE:Vision Effects, NewBlueFX or Primatte is expected to follow.
New effects will include Auto-Volumetrics for 3D light rays, Heat Distortion and Lens Blur. In the grading area, a curves workflow including Skin Retouch for digital make-up and grade transfer to different clips has been added.
HitFilm 3 Pro includes mocha HitFilm 4.0 from Imagineer Systems. It can now export a tracked shape into HitFilm 3, where it can be used as an animated mask.
HitFilm has improved the workspace for 3D space in terms of consistency and flexibility across all 3D layers. In addition, 3D objects such as the particle simulator and gunfire effects can be created in their own isolated or in a unified 3D space. A new 3D camera projection makes it possible to generate a 3D view from a 2D photo in which users can move the virtual camera.
HitFilm has also become substantially faster, bringing the dream of a rendering workflow without waiting ever closer.
HitFilm 3 Pro including mocha HitFilm and 130 plug-ins is available for new customers for 299 US dollars. It can be pre-ordered here. An upgrade is available from 169 US dollars.
