We hope you enjoy looking and hope to see you again next year when the animago AWARD & CONFERENCE opens its doors once more on October 15 and 16.
The interactive panorama can be controlled via the menu bar at the bottom. There is a full-screen button that enlarges the panorama to fill the entire screen. Escape returns you to the website. On the iPad and other mobile devices, the panorama can also be controlled with the motion sensor. This link takes you directly to the page (recommended for mobile devices): http://www.animago.vision360grad.com/
360-degree images with the Rico Theta
The images were created by Nils Calles (v-cut) with a Rico Theta camera, which has a wide-angle lens on both the front and back and can therefore take both shots simultaneously. These are combined directly in the camera into a perspectively distorted JPG with a resolution of 3,584 x 1,792 pixels, which can then be loaded from the camera onto the computer via USB.
The camera can be controlled via Wi-Fi using an app for Android or iOS. An interval recording function was also added with the latest update. The fully spherical images are mapped onto a sphere by the SphericalViewer software, in which you can then “navigate”. They can also be used as spherical mapping in any 3D software or in After Effects. The images can likewise be used for environment mapping, for example for the After Effects plug-in Element 3D.
The current version still costs 450 euros. A new model with video functionality will be released at the end of November. The price will then be 299 euros including VAT. Further information about the camera can be found, for example, at Heise and Chip.

Further animago impressions in 2D
We look back on two exciting days: this year we welcomed around 1,000 international visitors as well as 50 international speakers and experts to the Metropolis Hall at Filmpark Babelsberg. The ten winners of this year’s animago AWARD were chosen from a total of 1,014 submissions — here are some more, albeit conventional, pictures from this year’s animago AWARD & CONFERENCE:

The Digital Production marketing team in action (Carmen Lernhardt, left, with hostess).

Speaker Tony Micilotta from The Moving Picture Company spoke about the VFX for “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and specifically about the Sentinels — seen here in the picture.

Jan Stoltz from Trixter in Munich spoke about the animation of the characters in “Der 7bte Zwerg”.

Rüdiger Kaltenhäuser and Markus Lauterbach from Glassworks Amsterdam spoke about “High End VFX and Character Animation for Commerials”. Shown here is the commercial “adidas Climachill – A Cooling Revolution”, which was nominated this year for an animago AWARD in the Best Advertising Production category.

Jörn Großhans from Stuttgart-based Mackevision spoke about the making-of of the successful HBO series “Game of Thrones”. For the fourth season, the 40-person team contributed 72 VFX shots over a period of six months. The team’s work focused on crowd scenes, CGI ships including water simulation, and generating digital environments.

Unfortunately, we do not know whether we will have a golden lion standing in welcome at the Metropolis Hall next year as well. But with or without the lion — we are looking forward to next year!
