At the careers information day on December 5, the Filmakademie and the Animation Institute will provide information about the various degree programmes and specialisations. The graduation films Bär, Wrapped and The Present, created at the institute this year, are running in the competition, while further student work complements the programme. Here is the programme of the 20th Baden-Württemberg Film Showcase in detail.
During the careers information day, Animation Institute staff will be available to answer interested visitors’ questions at the Filmakademie’s information stand between 10 am and 5 pm. In cinema 2, Filmakademie managing director Thomas Schadt will provide information about the selection process at 11 am. Afterwards, Sven Bergmann, the institute’s head of studies, will give tips on applying and an overview of the various study specialisations in the Animation and Interactive Media focus areas.
At 4 pm, Bergmann will also moderate the "Games" information event, which deals with production models and career opportunities in the German video-game industry. As part of this presentation, he will provide a detailed introduction to the "Interactive Media" study focus and its practice-oriented teaching methods.
In the competition for the Baden-Württemberg Film Award in the "Best Animated Film" category, the graduation works "Bär" (directed by Pascal Flörks, more about this in DP issue 03/14), "Wrapped" (Roman Kälin, Falko Paeper and Florian Wittmann, more about this in this year’s animago issue) and "The Present" (Jacob Frey) compete with five other films made in Baden-Württemberg. The prize is endowed with 2,000 euros and will be awarded on December 7. In addition to the three competition films, five further films by Animation Institute students will be shown at the anniversary film showcase on December 6: 40 Gedanken (Anselm Pyta), A Horrible Mistake (Jennifer Bury and Christian Hertwig), Deep Dance (Marco Erbrich), Opossum (Paul Cichon) and Plot O Mat (Iring Freytag and Florian Werzinski).
Tickets for the screenings cost between 5 and 8 euros; the festival pass costs 65 euros, or 55 euros at the reduced rate. Admission to the careers information day is free.
