Adobe and Fotolia announced today that there is an agreement to purchase. Fotolia (one of the major providers of royalty-free photos, images, graphics, and HD videos) is moving from its previous private ownership to Adobe for 800 million dollars. The official completion will then presumably come in Q1/2 2015 after the various regulatory requirements.
Direct integration into Creative Cloud will presumably come soon, and the marketplace in the cloud will grow by a huge amount. According to Adobe, however, the Fotolia platform as such will continue to exist – so anyone who needs the images and does not use CC can continue to buy there. Fotolia, which was founded in 2004, was owned by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P., TA Associates, and Fotolia management, and maintains offices in New York, Paris, and Berlin.
