FBXs for meshes, skeletons, materials, and animations can now be exported – this should make it easy to integrate MD into existing pipelines. Another new feature that makes integration into existing pipelines interesting is “Piping”, which makes it possible to add hems and tubes made from the material at the end of the object – in other words, finally no more threadbare sheets in architectural visualisation. In addition, there is export as an OBJ sequence, in which every frame of the animation is output as an individual OBJ – which should greatly simplify animation.

Other new features include “Press”, in which the edges between layers are smoothed, and “Superimpose”, in which different patterns are overlaid (camouflage checks, anyone?). The update appears to be free for licence holders, but with the new $60-per-month subscription, you can also virtualise the wardrobe for a smaller project.
Another advantage of MD is, of course, that there is a large library of ready-made garments – so if you want to clothe your models decently in a proper simulation….
