Grass Valley will release the new version of EDIUS at the end of June. The editing program now has a stripped-down interface and supports Canon’s new XF-AVC format and Intel’s Quick Sync Video technology for decoding.

The biggest new feature is the GV Browser, which allows users to assemble virtual bins using tags, a fast filter function for larger archives.

However, not all the new functions will be available at once. The developers have created a roadmap for future free subversions so that we know what is coming. Here is an overview of the functions, not all of which will be available with the first release and are intended to be added little by little:

  • GV Browser
  • New GUI
  • Accelerated 4K H.264 playback (via QuickSync)
  • Canon 4K XF-AVC support
  • Revised third-party hardware support (the Blackmagic drivers)
  • H.265/HEVC support
  • OpenFX
  • Motion-tracking tool
  • Slow-motion function (Optical Flow)
  • A new colour-grade mode
  • RAW support
  • LOG/LUT support
